Executive Compensation and Benefits Survey

If you are at a doctoral institution with high or very high research activity, we invite you to participate in CUPA-HR's annual Executive Compensation and Benefits Survey.

About the Survey

CUPA-HR's annual Executive Compensation and Benefits Survey is an invitation-only survey created in 2018 to provide select institutions with a comprehensive look at executive compensation ranging from bonuses to benefits and perquisites. Unlike CUPA-HR's other workforce surveys, the Executive Compensation and Benefits Survey focuses exclusively on doctoral institutions with high and very high research activity (R1 and R2).

Results from the Executive Compensation and Benefits Survey are delivered via a subscription to DataOnDemand and are available to participating institutions only. You can also grant access to consultants of your choosing. Like all other CUPA-HR surveys, results from the Executive Compensation and Benefits Survey adhere to our strict confidentiality standards. We will not associate the data you provide with your institution in any results except to list you as a participant. Results are provided only in aggregate.

Data Collected

The Executive Compensation and Benefits Survey covers the following topics:

  • Base salary
  • Performance-based bonuses or incentives
  • Total cash compensation
  • Total employer contribution to defined contribution plans and defined benefit plans
  • Supplemental Retirement Plans (including Deferred Compensation Plans)
  • Perks such as housing allowances, transportation allowances, and discretionary spending accounts

How Does the Executive Compensation and Benefits Survey Differ From the CUPA-HR Administrators Survey?

CUPA-HR's Administrators in Higher Education Survey provides data mainly on base salary, whereas our Executive Compensation and Benefits Survey provides comprehensive compensation data including base salary, bonuses, total cash compensation, retirement plan contributions, and expanded perks. Here is a visual representation of the data provided by the Executive Compensation and Benefits Survey versus the Administrators Survey:

If you are at a doctoral institution with high or very high research activity, we invite you to contribute to our annual Executive Compensation and Benefits data collection. Your participation guarantees that you can purchase results when you need them, and also serves the higher ed HR community by helping create a comprehensive compensation database for doctoral institutions with high or very high research activity.

The Executive Compensation and Benefits Survey operates on a different timeline than our other workforce surveys. Keep in mind the following dates and be prepared to start participating on the opening date, including having your institutional basics data prepared.
