The University of Texas at Dallas Receives the CUPA-HR HR Innovation Award

The University of Texas at Dallas has received the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) 2023 HR Innovation Award for its BRIGHT Leaders program.

The HR Innovation Award recognizes innovative thinking in higher education HR, especially models that can be adapted for use on other campuses. CUPA-HR is pleased to make a $5,000 contribution to the University of Texas at Dallas in recognition of the award.

Recognizing that organizations that treat every employee as a leader create the best leaders and workplace cultures, The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) office of human resources created the BRIGHT Leaders program, which it planned to launch in 2020 until the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic postponed those plans. As the pandemic subsided, the shift to more remote work options for staff and faculty made the original in-person cohort model less ideal. The team then pivoted and completely redesigned the program to be a fully inclusive online program that provides a wide range of leadership and professional development opportunities and resources for staff and faculty at all levels.

Participants learn leadership principles and access tools to empower them to lead from where they are. These principles and tools support and nurture the professional development of Bold, Responsible, Inclusive, Growing, High-performing, and Transformative (BRIGHT) leaders, allowing them to advance professional and personal goals, and in turn, advance the mission of UTD.

For UTD’s innovative approach to leadership development with its BRIGHT Leaders program, CUPA-HR is pleased to award the institution the HR Innovation Award.
