On January 27, the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD) announced several compliance toolkits for employers to help them better understand federal labor laws and avoid violations. The tools include a new compliance assistance webpage, a video series on the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and revamped industry-specific compliance assistance toolkits.

The tools provide resources on several policy issues important to higher ed HR professionals. The new compliance assistance webpage includes links to tools and resources on minimum wage and overtime under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), employer guides and posters for the FMLA, and compliance guidance for wage and hour laws for those working with government contracts. The industry-specific compliance resources include FLSA and FMLA toolkits, a basic compliance toolkit, and an H-1B compliance assistance toolkit.

WHD’s announcement also highlighted the relaunch of the opinion letter program and the Payroll Audit Independent Determination (PAID) program, both of which were restored in 2025.

CUPA-HR will continue to update members on compliance tools provided by the Department of Labor.
