Which Leadership Role Is Right for You?

CUPA-HR volunteer leaders are the heart and soul of the association. Individuals who have a sincere desire to lead and support higher education and higher education human resources through service, stewardship, responsiveness and collaboration are encouraged to consider applying for any of the opportunities below.

As a CUPA-HR leader, you will connect and engage with other higher education professionals across the country to share and build your leadership skills and expertise, which will help you make an even greater impact at your institution. You will also gain access to the collective knowledge and experiences of other board members and potentially develop lifelong friendships with colleagues who share similar interests and challenges.

As part of the association’s commitment to our leaders, CUPA-HR covers the expenses for our national board, leadership councils, and one representative from each of our chapters to gather each July for the Association Leadership Program. During this very interactive two-day program, we discuss trends in higher education and the workforce and our roles as higher ed HR and CUPA-HR leaders. Many leadership positions provide additional discounts for events throughout the year as well.

All individuals wishing to serve must have the support of their supervisor before applying and must be employed at a CUPA-HR member institution for the duration of their term. The lone exceptions to the membership requirement are at-large positions on CUPA-HR chapter boards which, depending on the chapter, may be filled by an individual at a non-member institution. Some travel is required for volunteer leadership positions. The boards referenced below are considered working groups, with board members executing most group tasks and CUPA-HR staff providing support where appropriate.
