Drug Use in the Workplace
Reports show that for the second consecutive year, the use of cocaine, methamphetamines, marijuana and other illicit drugs by workers in the U.S. has increased. With the use of prescription drugs also on the rise, now may be a good time to reevalute or update your substance abuse and drug-free workplace policies. Learn more.

HR and Cyberattacks
As hackers are becoming more tech-savvy and finding sophisticated new ways to retrieve personal data from behind firewalls, stories of cyberattacks and data breaches are becoming more and more commonplace in the news. Costs associated with a data breach can escalate quickly to include forensic tracking, notification, legal guidance and in some cases, public relations efforts after the fact. HR, IT and other key stakeholders in an organization should be proactively partnering to work toward greater levels of preparation, training, response capabilities and protocols – before a cybersecurity threat ever occurs. Executive Order on Paid Sick Leave for Federal Contractors
On September 7, President Barack Obama signed an Executive Order (EO) requiring federal contractors to offer their employees up to seven days of paid sick leave per year. The EO will apply to new federal contracts beginning in 2017 and will allow employees working on federal contracts to earn a minimum of one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked. CUPA-HR’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee has put together several resources related to collaboration around DEI efforts on campus. These “skills in a box” can be used with a work group, unit or team to help guide conversations and spur action. Learn more.
