UC Boulder’s Facilities Management Human Resources Team Receives CUPA-HR’s HR Innovation Award

UC Boulder’s Facilities Management Human Resources Team

University of Colorado Boulder’s facilities management human resources team has received the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) 2016 HR Innovation Award. The team received the award for its Facilities Management Mentor Program. Thanks to the generous support of PeopleAdmin, CUPA-HR is pleased to offer a $5,000 contribution to UC Boulder’s endowment or a scholarship fund of the facilities management HR team’s choice.

The Facilities Management Mentor Program (FMMP) pairs individuals in UC Boulder’s facilities management department in a mentor/mentee relationship according to specific areas of interest, such as enhancing personal and professional skills and abilities, career development or leadership development. The program was implemented by the facilities management HR division in 2012 after another mentor program in which facilities management staff had participated, which had been offered through the vice chancellor of administration’s office, was discontinued.

FMMP is a highly valued program among both managers and staff in facilities management, and has enjoyed high levels of participation from the get go. In fact, the majority of facilities management supervisors, managers and department directors have served as mentors in the program. “Having our top leadership actively participate in FMMP has provided a great resource and has set a great example for our employees,” says Andrew Mead, HR program manager in UC Boulder’s facilities management division. “The program has helped to increase employee engagement, facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing and expand employees’ knowledge, skills and abilities.”
