Mark Coldren, Chief Human Resources Officer at University at Buffalo, Receives CUPA-HR’s Donald E. Dickason Award

Mark Coldren, head of human resources at University at Buffalo, has received the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) 2016 Donald E. Dickason Award. CUPA-HR’s highest honor, this award is named for the association’s founder and recognizes an individual for exceptional leadership and service to CUPA-HR. Thanks to the generous support of TIAA-CREF, CUPA-HR is pleased to offer a $3,000 contribution to University at Buffalo’s endowment or a scholarship fund of Coldren’s choice.

Coldren has been highly engaged with CUPA-HR for over a decade. He began his service at the chapter level, joined the association’s Eastern Region board of directors in 2007, and was elected to the national board in 2008, where he served as chair in 2013-14. Coldren has consistently been (and continues to be) a valuable contributor to CUPA-HR endeavors, often contributing ideas which lead to highly successful new initiatives. He provided outstanding leadership to the development of CUPA-HR’s new learning framework, has been a regular contributor to conferences, has made significant contributions to CUPA-HR’s diversity, equity and inclusion and learning and professional development work, serves as a mentor to many emerging higher education HR leaders and served in an active leadership role in the development of CUPA-HR’s emerging leader and mentorship programs.

Coldren has served as chief HR officer at University at Buffalo since last July. Prior to that, he served as head of human resources at Ithaca College.
