Kansas City University Receives CUPA-HR’s HR Innovation Award

Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences has received the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) 2021 HR Innovation Award for its myKCU Video News newsletter.

The HR Innovation Award recognizes innovative thinking in higher education HR, especially models that can be adapted for use on other campuses. CUPA-HR is pleased to make a $5,000 contribution to KCU’s COVID-19 Response Fund.

The new myKCU Video News newsletter, launched in 2019, goes out twice a month. The first monthly edition focuses on topics such as upcoming events, trainings, benefits and wellness, and the second focuses on the university’s diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts with topics ranging from focused DEI actions and monthly observances to upcoming DEI campus events and presentations. The newsletter is distributed through an intranet announcement with a link to a page that houses the video and additional links to in-depth information on topics mentioned in the video.

The HR team has found that video is more engaging, more memorable and more popular than most other types of content they produce for KCU employees, and they have seen a significant increase in engagement and traffic to their HR site.
