Dave Blake, Vice President of Human Resources at California Western School of Law, Receives CUPA-HR’s Donald E. Dickason Award

Dave Blake, vice president of human resources at California Western School of Law, has been selected to receive the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) 2019 Donald E. Dickason Award. This award, named for the association’s founder, is CUPA-HR’s highest honor, recognizing an individual for exceptional leadership and service to CUPA-HR. Thanks to the generous support of TIAA, CUPA-HR is pleased to offer a $6,000 contribution to California Western School of Law’s endowment or scholarship fund.

In 2011, Blake was recognized with the Western Region Emerging CUPA-HR Leader award, and since that time he has made significant contributions to CUPA-HR. He has served in numerous leadership roles throughout the organization, including chair of the national board of directors, chair of the Western Region, president of the Southern California Chapter, as well as chair of the Public Policy Committee and chair of the Learning and Professional Development Committee. In the last couple of years, he has taken an active role as a guide for CUPA-HR’s Wildfire program, an immersive year-long program that helps a select group of early-career professionals find their passion for higher ed HR by connecting them with higher ed leaders and unique learning opportunities.

“Dave has been a highly visible and high-impact leader within all levels of the association. He has presented, mentored, planned, implemented – you name it. If it is part of CUPA-HR, Dave has influenced it,” said Mark Coldren, fellow guide for CUPA-HR’s Wildfire program. “His devotion to mentoring has helped countless individuals. Anyone new in the field that comes to a CUPA-HR event is immediately drawn to Dave. He is so accessible and encouraging to them to question, challenge, and be innovative in all that they do.”
