In Memoriam 

James Edgar "Jim" Stockdale, a long-time CUPA-HR leader, passed away on December 8, 2020.

In 1969, as the first personnel director of the University of Tennessee Medical Units, Stockdale was responsible for creating and designing the personnel program on campus, which included hiring, managing personnel records, orientation of new employees, wage and salary consistency, employee relations, training, and everything that related to non-academic employees. He was one of four people who wrote the personnel policies for the entire University of Tennessee system in the 1970s. He was also very active in CUPA-HR and served as the chair of the board in 1977-78.

We will be forever grateful for Jim Stockdale’s many contributions to his colleagues, CUPA-HR and the higher ed HR profession.
