Clark England Nominated for CUPA-HR Honorary Life Membership August 1, 2005

The CUPA-HR National Board of Directors has endorsed the Northwest Regional Board’s nomination of Clark England for Honorary Life Membership in the association. CUPA-HR members will vote to approve England’s status as Honorary Life Member during the business meeting on Tuesday, September 27, at the National Conference and Expo 2005 in Orlando, Florida.

England’s higher education human resources career began in 1977, when he became manager of Employee Benefits at Utah State University. He became assistant director of Human Resources in 1981 and assumed the duties of director of HR in 1983, a position he held until his retirement in December 2004. He also taught a Human Resources Management course at Utah State for more than twenty-five years.

His CUPA-HR track record is impressive. Over the course of almost thirty years, England attended twenty-four national conferences and twenty-four regional conferences; presented at countless association conferences and seminars; and served as a key figure in the initial strategic planning work of the association in the early 1990s. England also has served on the CUPA-HR Membership Advisory Board; as chair-elect, chair, and past chair of the Northwest Region Board; as president-elect, president, past president, and treasurer on the National Board; and currently is a member of the Past President’s Assembly.

Greg Walters, director of Human Resources at Lewis and Clark College and treasurer on the CUPA-HR National Board, nominated England for Honorary Life Membership and says, “Clark is one of the kindest and gentlest human resources professionals I have ever met. He has had a long and distinguished career in higher education HR and it was with tremendous honor, respect, and awe that I nominated him for honorary life membership.”

To be considered for Honorary Life Membership in CUPA-HR, an individual must: (1) be retired from a higher education HR position, or have announced such retirement to occur by the end of the fiscal year in which the national conference is held; (2) have demonstrated in an exemplary manner professional qualities of leadership and/or service in CUPA-HR and in the individual’s institution; and (3) have shown a commitment to the values and goals of CUPA-HR as demonstrated by a consistent record of active leadership and participation at the national, regional, and chapter levels of the association.
