Types of Membership

The CUPA-HR membership year for all membership types is July 1 – June 30.

Institutional Membership

Institutional membership in CUPA-HR is open to all colleges, universities, departments, and system offices. The dues structure for institutional members is calculated on a sliding scale on the basis of the institution’s budget as defined in the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System’s (IPEDS) report as “Expense by Function.” For a full dues schedule, click here. Corporate Membership — $1000

Individuals, organizations or groups (including some nonprofits) that wish to gain access to higher education professionals for purposes that include promoting their organizations, learning about the higher ed HR community or advertising products or services, are eligible to become corporate members of CUPA-HR. Corporate membership will give up to four corporate representatives full access to CUPA-HR corporate member benefits. If corporate members wish to designate additional representatives to receive CUPA-HR membership benefits, they may do so for an additional cost of $60 per representative. Individuals and organizations that might fall under this category include consultants, law firms and corporate consortiums.

International Institution Membership — $500

This membership category is for institutions or organizations outside of the United States and United States territories. International institution members receive the same membership benefits as institutional members.

Affiliate Organization Membership — $315

Affiliate organization memberships are open to non-profit associations or organizations (other than institutions of higher education) whose primary purpose for joining CUPA-HR is to acquire knowledge or information. Types of organizations that might fall under this category are K-12 schools, museums and professional associations. Affiliate organization members receive the same membership benefits as institutional members.

Other-Industry HR Professional Membership — $315

Other-industry professional HR memberships are available to individuals who are professionally involved in the field of human resources but who would otherwise not be eligible to join CUPA-HR as an Institutional member representative, or as a Corporate or Affiliate Organization member. Other-industry professional HR members are typically not employed in human resources administration on a higher education campus. Types of individuals that may fall under this category are those who still work in human resources but left the higher education industry, or individuals working in city/county government human resources, who want to stay connected to higher education human resources.

Retiree Membership — $25

Retiree memberships are available to persons who have officially retired from full time employment in higher education and the human resources profession. Retiree membership is not available for retirees employed by an educational institution, or any organization or corporation that provides products or services to the HR industry. Higher education HR retirees who are employed by consulting organizations or affiliated with other corporate entities are eligible to be corporate members.

Student Membership — $25

The purpose of the student membership is to provide support to those studying Human Resource practices and for those who wish to pursue a career in Higher Education Human Resources.

Student memberships are available to any matriculating undergraduate or graduate students. The Student Membership level is not available for employees of an educational institution, or any organization or corporation that provides products or services to the HR industry.

Transitional Membership — $25

Transitional memberships are available to higher ed professionals who are transitioning from one higher ed position to another but want to ensure that they stay connected to all of CUPA-HR’s resources and services. A transitional membership is available for up to one year, ending on June 30. Transitional members may not vote and are not eligible for elected office at the national or regional level. Transitional membership is not available for anyone who is currently employed.
