Wellness Programs



Many businesses and institutions are developing workplace wellness programs to combat the growing number of "lifestyle diseases" such as diabetes, high cholesterol and obesity. In addition to the positive effects of a wellness program on individual health, the employer benefits include reduced group insurance claims, improved employee performance and greater employee attendance.

While a workplace wellness program may not look much different when implemented on a college or university campus, there are additional benefits and challenges to consider. One of the many added benefits of having a wellness program in a higher ed institution is the far-reaching effects of a healthy campus, not just a healthy staff. Colleges and universities matriculate current and future business and community leaders. Developing a culture of physical, emotional and financial wellness on campus can have a future impact through these leaders.
