CUPA-HR: 60 Years and Counting ...

The date: April 11, 1946. The place: Chicago, Illinois. The event: A forum, organized by a visionary named Donald E. Dickason, in which a small group of college and university personnel administrators came together to address the concerns of workforce administration in institutions of higher learning. Little did the group know that that first gathering would prove to be the cornerstone of an association that would soon be called CUPA!

Now, fast forward 60 years. The date: September 28-30, 2006. The place: San Diego, California. The event: CUPA-HR’s National Conference and Expo 2006 and 60th anniversary celebration. We certainly have come a long way! And as we celebrate this important milestone, we will reflect on what has changed over the course of 60 years and also look toward the future to envision what’s next for our profession. Hence, the conference theme “Reflecting on the Past, Focusing on the Future.”

We’ve recruited the best and the brightest in our field to present an array of concurrent sessions, forums and workshops. This year’s keynote presenters, who are sure to inspire and encourage you, include HR icon and best-selling author Dave Ulrich; Ann Rhoads, president of People Ink and former executive vice president of people at JetBlue Airways; and Ed Barlow, president of Creating the Future, Inc.

From formal educational sessions to informal collegial exchanges, CUPA-HR’s National Conference and Expo 2006 will meet your career development and networking objectives. I hope you will join me in celebrating 60 years of CUPA-HR while we reflect on the past and focus on the future of higher education human resources management.

See you in San Diego!
