Past presidents and past chairs of CUPA-HR’s board of directors have developed and will present this full-day workshop specifically for HR professionals who are new to higher education. This preconference program, presented by seasoned higher ed HR leaders, will provide you with the knowledge you need while answering your questions about issues specific to colleges and universities.

Designing and Implementing Faculty Civility and Anti-Bullying Policies

Workplace bullying — psychological harassment — has been described as “one of the business world’s dirtiest secrets” and has been reported as commonplace in higher ed. Gain insights from a panel of academic and ADR professionals regarding critical public policy issues and private organizational policies related to workplace bullying and faculty incivility and discuss with presenters related and developing laws, the economic and psychological consequences of workplace bullying and marginalization, and the impact of workplace bullying on women, racial and ethnic minorities and other individuals not protected by current federal EEO laws.

Workshop attendees will find out what anti-workplace bullying policies and procedures have been designed and implemented by colleges and universities and will also learn how to design and implement special programs and systems established to prevent and resolve claims of workplace bullying.

Highlights include an examination of:

  • Conflict management and ADR protocols that have been implemented to resolve claims of workplace bullying in higher education;
  • Potential personal liability for administrators and faculty who engage in workplace bullying; and
  • Degree of interest among higher ed stakeholders in designing and implementing conflict management and ADR protocols to prevent and resolve claims of faculty incivility, workplace bullying and marginalization, without litigation.

Becoming a Lean Organization


3 Credit Hours

Funding challenges have prompted higher education and HR programs to increase productivity, bolster efficiency, cut costs, and eliminate nonessential offerings. Lean thinking can enable an organization to achieve essential goals in an environment of diminished resources.

Learn about lean thinking and the approaches several higher education institutions have employed to “go lean.” Roundtable discussions and exercises will enable you to practice lean thinking and develop “takeaways” to implement on your campus.
