CUPA-HR Cares: Murals & Desks for Children & Schools

Sponsored by TIAA-CREF

Monday, September 20 • 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Coming to the conference? We invite you to roll up your sleeves and join us in a service project to benefit local children and schools. Developed in partnership with TIAA-CREF and HigherEdJobs, with additional assistance from HandsOn New Orleans, the service project has two components:

College Logo Murals: Volunteers paint pre-drawn canvas college logo murals for area public schools. These murals are inspirational and encourage students to aspire to higher education. College logo murals have been installed in 9 public schools by HandsOn New Orleans volunteers to date, and more schools have requested them for their hallways and classrooms.

Children’s Desk Set Assembly: Volunteers assemble children’s desks and chairs for families with young students. Children’s study furniture provides a personal place to study for young students and encourages good study habits and a positive mentality towards school. Desks and chairs would go to families in need and are distributed through UNITY of Greater New Orleans, a nonprofit that addresses homeless and housing issues in New Orleans.

Reserve Your Space

There is no cost for you to be a part of the first-ever CUPA-HR Cares but registration is necessary. You can reserve your space when you register for the conference. To ensure that we have room and materials for as many people as possible to participate, we ask each volunteer to select one of the five one-hour time blocks. There are twenty volunteer spots available during each hour so sign up early to reserve your ideal time!

We’re Counting on You!

Before committing to volunteer, please be sure you can arrange your schedule to be in New Orleans in time to participate. This year’s conference opens on Monday night. The service project will take place on Monday. Also, if you plan to attend a preconference workshop, you’ll want to choose a volunteer slot that doesn’t conflict.
