CUPA-HR Conference Grants
Made possible through the generous support of
Application Deadline: March 19, 2012
For many years, CUPA-HR has offered conference grants to assist members and prospective members who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend a CUPA-HR conference.
In 2007, after we lost to cancer our good friend and colleague Bob Barley — a key leader at ING and member of CUPA-HR’s Corporate Advisory Council — ING and other Corporate Advisory Council members made donations to the grant program in Bob’s honor. ING has continued to make donations annually and, in doing so, has helped fund several additional grants. Last year, CUPA-HR provided grants to eight deserving individuals. This year, thanks to ING, we will offer even more.
We invite any of our institutional members or prospective members who meet the criteria, to apply. The deadline for applications is March 19.
CUPA-HR Conference Grant Guidelines
Conference grants are for $1,500 each and may be used to attend any one of the following:
- CUPA-HR Annual Conference 2012 — September 9-11, Boston, Massachusetts
- CUPA-HR Western Region Conference 2013
- CUPA-HR Southern Region Conference 2013 — April 27-30, Charlotte, North Carolina
- CUPA-HR Eastern Region Conference 2013
- CUPA-HR Midwest Region Conference 2013
Grant nominations are received in the national office and shared with the region boards. Each region selects three recipients, for a total of 12 recipients. The remaining eight recipients are selected by the national awards committee.
Grants are awarded annually to CUPA-HR members or prospective members who traditionally have not had the opportunity to attend CUPA-HR educational programs. Traditionally under-represented groups in the higher education HR profession receive additional consideration.
As CUPA-HR evaluates grant applications, association members take precedence over prospective members. Grant applicants must demonstrate how they would benefit from receiving the grant. Applicants can have attended a previous program or seminar, but should express why they may not be able to attend a program without this grant.
The grant recipients must first apply grant money received to the registration cost of the program requested, with any remaining money being applied to transportation, meals and lodging expenses associated with the educational opportunity. Grant recipients who are unable to attend a conference in the 2011-12 membership year forfeit the grant and must submit a new application for the 2012-13 membership year.
