CUPA-HR National Board of Directors — Travel & Meeting Requirements

Here is a little information regarding board of director travel and meeting responsibilities. CUPA-HR pays all travel and meeting costs to attend the three national board meetings and the Association Leadership Program (ALP). There are no board meetings at the national conference or the region conferences, so board members are responsible for their own national and region conference attendance costs. There are some exceptions for the chair and chair-elect.

Board Meeting Dates

The July board meeting is the Wednesday and Thursday prior to the ALP. The 2012 ALP will be held in Knoxville, Tennessee. For 2012, the schedule is as follows:

• New board members and the executive committee (chair, chair-elect, past chair, treasurer and president and ceo) arrive afternoon/evening of Tuesday, July 10
• New board orientation morning of Wednesday, July 11
• Returning national board members arrive during morning on Wednesday, July 11
• National board meeting afternoon of Wednesday, July 11 and morning of Thursday, July 12
• ALP Friday and Saturday, July 13-14
• Return home morning of July 15

In addition to the July meeting, the board has a fall meeting and a spring meeting. The fall board meeting is typically held at the property that will host the next annual conference (fall 2012 meeting will be held in Las Vegas). The spring meeting is typically held during late-April.

With few exceptions, committee work is handled via monthly conference calls and email. Board members typically serve on 2-3 board committees.

Board Meeting Format

The board meetings are typically one full day. The board arrives the afternoon prior to the meeting. We go to dinner together then work diligently for a full day (8-5) followed by dinner that evening. The board then travels home the next morning. The standard format is to arrive on Thursday, meet all day Friday and then travel home on Saturday morning. Depending on scheduling, we may sometimes arrive on Friday afternoon, meet all day Saturday and return home on Sunday morning.
